High praise for Derek Carr. Texans rookie has leukemia. Training camps open.

NFL training camps will be in full swing this week as teams prepare for the 2022 season.

The Las Vegas Raiders were one of the first teams to report for camp, and optimism is high for the Silver and Black after some key offseason acquisitions.

The most noteworthy of those new players is All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, acquired in March in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.

With the Raiders, Adams is reunited with his college teammate, quarterback Derek Carr.

On Sunday, Adams hyped up his new quarterback, suggesting Carr is capable of having a Hall-of-Fame career, much like the quarterback Adams left behind in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers.

"Any time you change quarterbacks from a hall-of-famer to hall-of-famer — you go (Raiders legend Ken) Stabler to Rich Gannon or whoever you go to — it's going to be a little bit of an adjustment," Adams said Sunday in an interview with CBS Sports. "Both are great players and great to be around, so I'm just enjoying that process and getting better myself. I'm trying to do as much as I can to help these guys win as many games as we can."

Carr has some work to do to reach the stratosphere where Rodgers resides, but maybe Adams can help the Raiders signal-caller attain that lofty perch.

Texans rookie WR John Metchie III reveals leukemia diagnosis

John Metchie III – a second-round draft pick by the Houston Texans – revealed a recent leukemia diagnosis on Sunday and said he expects to miss the 2022 season as he focuses on treatment and recovery.

Metchie starred at Alabama, where he caught 155 passes for 2,081 yards and 14 touchdowns in 30 games for the Crimson Tide. Metchie was already facing another medical issue, after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the SEC Championship Game, a 41-24 Alabama victory over Georgia, on Dec. 4, 2021.
