NFL Week 2 breakdown: Trio of teams stage dramatic comebacks. Tom Brady loses his cool.
Week 2 is (almost) in the books. Here are some of the most important developments from Sunday:
- The Cardinals, Dolphins and Jets each had thrilling come-from-behind wins.
- 49ers QB Trey Lance will miss the rest of the season with a broken ankle.
- Tom Brady was caught on camera showing some frustration on the sideline.
- A kerfuffle between the Bucs and Saints led to the ejection of two players.
Biggest moments of NFL Week 2
- Tom Brady threw his helmet and tablet during a sideline temper tantrum during the Buccaneers' win over the Saints.
- The Cardinals' Byron Murphy came frighteningly close to throwing away his game-winning touchdown in overtime.
- Cardinals QB Kyler Murray took 20.8 seconds from snap to score on a crazy two-point scramble.
- The Seahawks ran a play that had four running backs in the backfield. It didn't work.
- Rams CB Jalen Ramsey made a leaping interception in the end zone to preserve victory over the Falcons.
- For the second straight week, DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket had issues.
Key storylines from NFL Week 2
- Winners and losers: While the New England Patriots took steps to right their offense, the Dak Prescott-less Dallas Cowboys can still have playoff aspirations.
- 32 things we learned: Tua Tagovailoa has his Dolphins off to a 2-0 start, something his more celebrated 2020 first-round draftmates — Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert — can't claim, Nate Davis writes.
- Mike Evans could've cost Bucs, but defense bailed them out: Evans escalated a mini-brawl with Marshon Lattimore despite the Bucs being shorthanded at wide receiver and needing a win against Saints, Jarrett Bell writes.
- Broncos win, but frustration mounts in Denver: With a little coaxing from the home crowd, a strong defensive outing, Russell Wilson and the Broncos managed to defeat the Houston Texans, Parker Gabriel writes.
- How the Cowboys pulled off upset of Bengals: A strong defensive performance and contributions from the former second-team offense sparked the Cowboys' big win, Jori Epstein writes.
NFL Week 2 results
- Packers 27, Bears 10: Aaron Rodgers' ownership of the Bears continues as Packers head coach Matt LaFleur improved to 7-0 against Green Bay's ancient rival.
- Cowboys 20, Bengals 17: Backup QB Cooper Rush, making his second career start, lifted Dallas past the defending AFC champions, who fell to 0-2.
- Broncos 16, Texans 9: It was ugly — and Denver lost key players to injuries — but Russell Wilson got his first win with the Broncos.
- Cardinals 29, Raiders 23 (OT): Arizona overcame a 20-point deficit to pull off a wild overtime win in Las Vegas.
- Rams 31, Falcons 27: The Rams very nearly squandered a 28-3 second-half lead. Thankfully for the defending champions, they have Jalen Ramsey on their side.
- 49ers 27, Seahawks 7: It's a good thing San Francisco signed Jimmy Garoppolo, who will reassume starting duties after the season-ending injury to Trey Lance.
- Lions 36, Commanders 27: Jared Goff had four touchdown passes and rookie first-round pick Aidan Hutchinson collected three sacks to lift Detroit to victory.
- Buccaneers 20, Saints 10: Tempers flared and a brawl broke out before the Bucs snapped a seven-game regular-season losing streak against the Saints.
- Dolphins 42, Ravens 38: Behind a six-touchdown performance from Tua Tagovailoa, Miami overcame a 21-point deficit to stun Baltimore.
- Jaguars 24, Colts 0: The preseason AFC South favorites took another embarrassing defeat in Jacksonville.
- Jets 31, Browns 30: The Browns did something very Browns-y at home against the Jets.
- Giants 19, Panthers 16: The Giants have opened a season 2-0 for the first time since 2016.
- Patriots 17, Steelers 14: Don't write off the Patriots just yet, as New England hasn't lost consecutive games to start a season since 2001 (when it won a Super Bowl).
- Chiefs 27, Chargers 24 (Thursday): Patrick Mahomes was more steady than sensational, and a rookie seventh-round draft pick made the game-breaking play as the Chiefs rallied to win.
