Super Bowl 58: Everything you need to know about the Chiefs-49ers game
Chances are if you are reading this, you’re as pumped about Super Bowl 58 as we are.
You’re probably already familiar with the dig on Brock Purdy as a game manager and maybe you know that at 28 years old, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is set to become the youngest QB in history to start four Super Bowls.
Here’s another question to ponder as you’re studying up for Sunday’s game: Is this Andy Reid’s finest campaign as a head coach?
“I don’t know if it’s his best (season). I think he’s always been great,” Hall of Fame coach Bill Cowher told Paste BN Sports. “I think what was exposed this year was his ability to adjust and adapt to his football team.” Here’s the link to read more on how Reid got his team in position to win its third Lombardi Trophy in five years.
Super Bowl 58 picks: Nearly unanimous
Six of Paste BN Sports' seven NFL experts picked the Chiefs to win their third Super Bowl in five years.
- Jarrett Bell: Chiefs
- Chris Bumbaca: Chiefs
- Nate Davis: Chiefs
- Tyler Dragon: Chiefs
- Victoria Hernandez: Chiefs
- Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz: Chiefs
- Lorenzo Reyes: 49ers
Kadarius Toney's Super Bowl status
Will Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney play Sunday after missing six consecutive games? Toney is one of the big mysteries during the lead-up to Super Bowl 58. He has done some damage control in the days after his obscenity-laced rant on social media, but will it be enough to get him in the game?
How did Kyle Shanahan become one of NFL's top minds?
No one has gotten a closer look at the NFL ascension of San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan than his father, Mike, a two-time Super Bowl winner. "Kyle's been through enough experiences with me where he's watched me and how I reacted," Mike, who led the Denver Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl triumphs during his son's high school years, told Paste BN Sports.
A deep dive on CMC
We’re in awe of Christian McCaffrey’s ability to catch the ball, run the ball and evade would-be tacklers. What was CMC like as a player at Valor Christian High School? Says his former running backs coach Rex Rolf: “He had all this natural ability and the worst thing you can do is overcoach somebody. … By the time you get to the junior and senior year, you go, ‘What do you think of this, Christian? Oh yeah, let’s go with that.’”
Travis Kelce's perfect companion
Is it Taylor Swift? Maybe not. From setting the standard for NFL tight ends to their outsized personalities, Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce and San Francisco 49ers' George Kittle have found kindred spirits in each other. With a relationship forged from paying it forward and mutual rises from relative obscurity, Super Sunday could be a career apex – from a football perspective anyway – for Kelce and Kittle. Paste BN Sports spent much of Super Bowl week digging into their games and relationship.
Super Bowl broadcasting history
Kevin Harlan and Olivia Harlan Dekker on Sunday will become the first father-daughter duo to call and cover a Super Bowl. Kevin, the veteran play-by-play voice, will be on the national radio call when the Kansas City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers. His daughter, Olivia, will serve as the sideline reporter for Sky Sports, which televises the NFL in the United Kingdom.
Antonio Gates on Hall of Fame snub
Antonio Gates, who helped transform the tight end position, said he felt pain after being denied entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Thursday. After all, he was widely expected to be voted in as a first-ballot inductee.
“I feel like I let the people who went through the journey with me down," said Gates, an eight-time NFL Pro Bowler with the Chargers.
Vote on the best Super Bowl commercials
You’ve probably already previewed some of Sunday’s Super Bowl ads that are generating buzz. If you are a child of the ‘80s who remembers the heart-pumping moves of dancer Alexandra Owens, this one’s for you. (Yes, that’s Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Jason Momoa and Jennifer Beals.)
If you are a "Friends" fan, there’s no doubt you will want to cast a vote for this Uber ad featuring David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston. Check out Paste BN’s Ad Meter program where you can help us pick the Super Bowl winner.
