As NFL training camps open, will two key WRs show up?
This is a big week, sports fans.
Sure, the 2024 Paris Olympics will get underway later this week.
However, there's something else happening that is exciting.
By Wednesday, every NFL team will have opened training camp.
A lot of attention in the coming days might be directed at two wide receivers.
Brandon Aiyuk's summer of discontent took a dramatic turn last week when he requested a trade. Aiyuk is entering his fifth NFL season after a breakout 2023 campaign, but remains on his rookie contract. While the emerging receiving talent might be seeing dollar signs after the mega-deals recently signed by peers such as Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith, Paste BN Sports' Nate Davis explains why it makes absolutely no sense for the San Francisco 49ers to trade Aiyuk.
The Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins saw every player who was slapped with the franchise tag this offseason get rich … except for him. The receiver and his current team did not reach a long-term agreement. Could the wide receiver hold out of training camp? This seems unlikely, but the Bengals' veteran players are scheduled to report on Tuesday, so stay tuned.
2024 record projections
With the preseason just around the corner, and all 32 rosters about as optimized as they’re going to be, it’s time to delve into our annual exercise of projecting each club's record.
That means caucusing our way through the league to find the best teams before winnowing the field to 14 postseason qualifiers and, ultimately, attempting to determine who’s atop the Super Bowl 59 ticket seven months in advance.
'Greatest' QB in NFL history?
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave an impassioned two-minute speech about his quarterback Lamar Jackson at training camp on Sunday, going as far as to say that Jackson will be "recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the history of the National Football League."
Jackson is a two-time MVP, but has yet to win (much less appear in) a Super Bowl. This will keep the critics saying, "Tom Brady" or "Patrick Mahomes" or "Joe Montana" or "Peyton Manning" or "John Elway" or "(insert any other quarterbacking great who has won titles)."
If Jackson were on "greatest ever" pace, you'd think he probably should have won a couple Super Bowls by now.
