Tom Brady and Bill Belichick: A tale of two broadcasting careers
While football fans will see plenty of Bill Belichick on TV this season, his former New England Patriots quarterback already is facing pushback before his broadcasting career even gets off the ground.
Tom Brady received a fat contract to be an analyst for FOX Sports, and the 2024 NFL season marks his broadcasting debut. The problem is that Brady also is attempting to be a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, a potential conflict of interest given the access broadcasters get to coaches, players, game plans, etc., to help make a pleasant and informative telecast for the viewers.
As Paste BN Sports' Nancy Armour writes:
NFL owners really don’t want Tom Brady to be part of their club. … The league is effectively boxing Brady in, forcing him to make a choice between his massive current paycheck or the potential “cachet” of being a minority owner of an NFL team — and leaving no doubt which one they prefer.
Belichick, meanwhile, is an out-of-work football coach with plenty of time and decades of knowledge at his disposal. ESPN (as well as the CW and Sirius XM) have big plans for the six-time Super Bowl winner. Belichick will appear on all 11 episodes of the "Manningcast," ESPN's alternate stream of its "Monday Night Football" presentation. Additionally, he and Peyton Manning will preview the upcoming Monday night matchup in a show called "The Breakdown with Peyton and Belichick," a 30-minute program that will be released the Friday before. Belichick also will appear on "The Pat McAfee Show" every Monday during the 2024 NFL season.
