Coronavirus Watch: CDC issues warning to young people
We're learning more about how the coronavirus affects people of all ages, and it's not just adults 65 and over.
New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that among the roughly 12% of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. known to need hospitalizations, about 1 in 5 were among people ages 20 to 44.
It's Thursday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the Paste BN Network, where we update you on everything to know about COVID-19.
Here's the latest, as of 1:30 p.m. ET:
- President Donald Trump says researchers are looking into at least two drugs that could be used to treat the coronavirus. One of them is a drug that has long been approved for malaria, and the other is an experimental antiviral.
- Food and Drug Commissioner Stephen Hahn said that clinical trials for a vaccine have begun and estimated the approval of a vaccine at about 12 months.
- The Trump administration wants checks of $1,000 per person and $500 per child to go out within three weeks of Congress passing a stimulus package.

Under this forecast, 21 million people would need hospitalization and 200,000 to 1.7 million could die by the end of the year.
- More than 10,700 people in the U.S. have been infected, and at least 154 people have died. About half of confirmed cases in the U.S. have been in just 10 counties. Here's a map of all confirmed cases.
- U.S. stocks opened lower once again, but the early numbers were far less numbing than Wednesday's 6%-plus crash. To follow the most up-to-date news about COVID-19's financial and economic impact, subscribe to The Daily Money newsletter.
