Coronavirus Watch: NY to begin testing drugs
Lawmakers are still working out a $1-trillion-plus stimulus package deal, the U.S. is nearing 30,000 cases, and New York will soon begin testing drugs to combat the coronavirus.

Here's the latest news, as of 1:45 p.m. ET:
- Lawmakers on Sunday still hadn't reached a deal on a $1.4 trillion package aimed at stabilizing the economy. To recap: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters the House would be introducing its own bill. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pushing a bill that would send $1,200 checks for most adults and hundreds of billions for businesses.
- The U.S., with at least 27,000 cases and 347 deaths, trails only Spain, Italy and China for most reported infections. Worldwide, there are at least 318,000 and 13,600 deaths. See a map of all confirmed U.S. cases here.
- Hawaii is implementing a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for all people traveling to the state. Here's a look at which states are requiring people to stay home.
- President Donald Trump sent a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un offering the communist nation help against coronavirus.
- At least 22 TSA employees at airports across the country have tested positive for the coronavirus, including at: JFK International, LaGuardia, Washington Dulles, Orlando, Newark Liberty and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson.
- The nation's largest detention system, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, reported its first known case of the coronavirus involving an inmate in Brooklyn.
- Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, have both tested negative for the coronavirus. They were tested after a Pence aide tested positive.
- New York state on Tuesday will begin testing drugs that could be used to combat the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. The Food and Drug Administration has shipped hydroxychloroquine, Zithromax and chloroquine to the state, which has seen the most cases in the nation.
