Coronavirus Watch: Trump considers quarantine in NY, NJ, CT
President Donald Trump says he's considering imposing a two-week quarantine on New York and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut to help contain the rapid spread of the coronavirus.
"We might not have to do it, but there's a possibility that sometime today we'll do a quarantine," he told reporters this morning.
It's Saturday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the Paste BN Network.
Here's the latest, as of 3:30 p.m. ET:
- More than 115,000 people have been infected in the U.S., and more than 1,800 people have died after contracting the virus. More than 600 of those deaths have been in New York. Here's a map of confirmed cases.
- The USNS Comfort, a hospital ship equipped with 1,000 beds and 1,200 medical personnel, was expected to arrive Monday in Manhattan, Trump said. The ship will not treat coronavirus patients but will be used to make room for coronavirus patients at hospitals.
- A rapid point-of-care coronavirus test could be coming to urgent care clinics next week. The FDA has authorized a test that delivers positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes.
- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that he’s postponing the state’s presidential primary from April 28 to June 23.
- Governors in Texas, Florida, Maryland and South Carolina this week ordered people arriving from virus hot spots to self-quarantine for at least 14 days upon arrival.
- Rural counties in Colorado, Utah and Idaho are experiencing some of the highest rates of coronavirus cases per capita in the nation.
- Nearly 300 Americans stranded in Central America have returned to the U.S. this week.
- Trump signed a bipartisan $2 trillion aid package Friday, the largest stimulus in U.S. history. And thanks to a late-hour revision, more low-income Americans will be eligible to receive the $1,200 checks.
- Apple, Express, Urban Outfitters and Guess stores have closed "until further notice." Nike says company stores "will remain temporarily closed in multiple countries around the world."

Hector from Miami, Florida, asks: Once infected, how long does it take to recover?
We know that the time between catching the virus and beginning to show symptoms ranges from one to 14 days, most commonly around five days, according to the World Health Organization. Information about how long it takes to recover is still preliminary, but a WHO study of cases in China published last month found that:
- For mild cases, the median time from symptom onset to recovery is about two weeks.
- The time from symptom onset to the development of severe disease is one week.
- For patients with severe or critical disease, the median recovery time is three to six weeks.
- Among patients who have died, the time from symptom onset to death ranges from two to eight weeks.
