Coronavirus Watch: Some patients suffering symptoms beyond normal recovery time
We know that the coronavirus affects people differently, but now there's a growing group of people who are still experiencing symptoms weeks, and even months, after the normal recovery time.
And it's putting these patients in limbo as they continue to self-isolate. Their symptoms are too severe to resume normal life but not enough to be hospitalized.
It's Saturday, and this is the Coronavirus Watch. Here's what you need to know today, as of 1 p.m. ET:
- Cruise ban: A major trade organization for the cruise industry has voluntarily extended the suspension of U.S. cruises to Sept. 15. The CDC's no-sail order is set to expire July 24.
- What's behind a surge in coronavirus cases across the country? So far, it's not due to recent protests over police brutality or because more people are leaving home. Instead, cases are surging in counties that avoided the worst coronavirus outbreaks earlier this year, a Paste BN analysis finds.
- The Navy has upheld the firing of Capt. Brett Crozier, who urged faster action to protect his crew aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt from a coronavirus outbreak.
- Today's stats: Infections have surpassed 2.2 million in the U.S. and 8.7 million globally. Almost 120,000 people in the U.S. have died, according to the Johns Hopkins University dashboard. Track the outbreak in your area here.
