It's Sunday, and this is the Coronavirus Watch newsletter from the Paste BN Network. Here's the news to know today, as of 1:30 p.m. ET.
- The FDA's list of hand sanitizers you should avoid is now up to 75. The products were flagged by the administration because they may contain methanol, a toxic substance when absorbed through skin or ingested. Here's the full list.
- Emergency rooms are being flooded in some areas. In Texas, Dr. Alison Haddock of the Baylor College of Medicine said the current situation is worse than after Hurricane Harvey in 2017. “I’ve never seen anything like this COVID surge,” Haddock said.
- President Donald Trump defended his response to the pandemic in a feisty interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace on Sunday. The two men argued when the president described the increase in COVID-19 cases as "burning embers"; Wallace said it was more like a "forest fire."
- In the U.S., more than 3.7 million have been infected with COVID-19, and 140,000 have died from the virus, per Johns Hopkins University data. Worldwide, 14 million have been infected and 600,000 have died.
