Coronavirus Watch: Is the MLB season already in jeopardy?

One weekend was all it took for the MLB to see its first major hiccup in returning to play.

Just days after Dr. Anthony Fauci's first pitch ceremoniously kicked off the 2020 baseball season, more than a dozen members of the Miami Marlins' clubhouse tested positive for COVID-19, leading to the postponement of two Monday night games.

Paste BN Sports' Bob Nightengale says the MLB season is now in jeopardy.

This is Monday's Coronavirus Watch from the Paste BN Network. Here's the news to know today, as of 1 p.m. ET.

  • Moderna says it's on track to produce as many as 1 billion vaccine doses per year, starting in 2021. The biotech company is underway with the world's largest vaccine study, which is in Phase 3 and involves 30,000 volunteer subjects.
  • Diabetes highlights two Americas: One where COVID-19 is easily beaten, the other where it's often devastating.
  • President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, tested positive for COVID-19, per an administration official.
  • If you stay at a hotel during the pandemic, a robot may deliver wine to your door or clean your room.
  • Numbers check: More than 4.2 million people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the U.S, and 147,000 have died. Worldwide, 16.3 million have been infected and nearly 650,000 have died from the virus, per Johns Hopkins data. Catch up on the numbers in your area using our interactive maps and graphics.

We want to hear your back-to-school story: How are you preparing for the upcoming school year if you're a student, teacher or parent? What do you hope for? What do you fear? Here's how you can submit your response.
