Coronavirus Watch: What is UV light and can it kill COVID-19?


Companies are using ultraviolet light technology as a preventative measure against COVID-19 – but is it effective?

Here's what we know about UV light and how it combats the coronavirus. Studies haven't confirmed that it can kill SARS-CoV-2, but it has proven effective against influenza and other seasonal coronaviruses.

  • A proposed $1 trillion stimulus package will be the point of discussion Monday between the White House and Congress. 
  • A new series of 90-minute tests that can detect both COVID-19 and the flu will soon be available in Great Britain. 
  • At least 36 crew members and four former passengers have tested positive for COVID-19 after sailing on a cruise ship currently docked in Norway.
  • Keep up on the latest numbers in your area right here, including daily case counts by state. More than 4.6 million have tested positive and 154,000 have died of the virus in the U.S., per Johns Hopkins data. Worldwide, 18.1 million have tested positive and 690,000 have died.
