Coronavirus Watch: Who do you trust on COVID-19?


One of the rare exchanges in which President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden didn't talk over each other during Tuesday night's debate was when they were asked who voters should trust to respond to the pandemic. Trump defended his administration's response, saying he took action early by restricting travel from China, where the virus originated. Biden dinged Trump as an uncaring president without a plan.   • Moderna's vaccine candidate is showing signs that it is as effective in creating an immune response in elderly people as it is for young people – a positive development as many vaccines are less effective for older people.
  • The first NFL game has been postponed due to COVID-19. The Tennessee Titans experienced a handful of positive cases in recent days, leading to the postponement of Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game will instead be played either Monday or Tuesday.
  • Hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial drug repeatedly touted by President Donald Trump, did not help prevent coronavirus in a recent clinical trial done by University of Pennsylvania researchers.
  • New York City plans to host testing "block parties" after a brief jump in cases. 

Numbers check: In the U.S., more than 206,000 have died of COVID-19 and nearly 7.2 million have tested positive. Globally, the death toll is just over 1 million, while 33.7 million people have tested positive. Keep track of the numbers in your state right here.
