Coronavirus Watch: Meet the college that's keeping cases down
Has Dr. Anthony Fauci ever discouraged wearing face masks?
Fauci had to clarify his previous comments after President Donald Trump argued in Tuesday's debate that Fauci and other medical experts initially discouraged mask use, which is partially true.
Fauci told ABC News that he had warned against masks at first due to a severe shortage. By April, it became more clear how important masks are to preventing the spread of COVID-19, prompting new guidance from the CDC.
It's Thursday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the Paste BN Network. Here's the news to know today, as of 2:30 p.m. ET.
- This school is keeping cases down: Many colleges are facing high amounts of virus cases, but tiny Colby College is running one of the nation's most rigorous testing programs. So far, it looks like it's working.
- Moderna, a key player in the development of a vaccine, won't have one ready until March 2021, the company's CEO Stéphane Bancel told the Financial Times. “I think a late (first quarter), early (second quarter) approval, is a reasonable timeline," he said.
- Is "SNL" following New York's COVID-19 rules? "Saturday Night Live" was taking requests through a third party for tickets to its season premiere this weekend, despite state policies restricting live audiences at media productions.
Numbers check: In the U.S., 7.2 million people have tested for the virus and 207,000 have died of it. Globally, 34 million have tested positive and just over 1 million have died of COVID-19.
Case counts in Wisconsin are as bad as they've ever been. Keep track of the numbers in your state right here.
