Coronavirus Watch: Cases are rising in 39 states
Most states are seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases.
Thirty-nine states reported more cases in the last week than they had in the week before. And yesterday, nine of them set records for infections in a week.
Alaska, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming all set state records in the seven-day period, a Paste BN analysis of Johns Hopkins data through late Tuesday shows.
It's Wednesday, and this is the Coronavirus Watch from the Paste BN Network. Here's the most significant news of the day, as of 11:15 a.m. ET:
- On Tuesday, President Donald Trump seemingly put an end to months of negotiations over a COVID-19 stimulus package when he rejected the Democrats' latest offer. But then at 10:18 p.m., he tweeted that he would approve a standalone bill for $1,200 stimulus checks.
- Senior White House adviser Stephen Miller has tested positive for the coronavirus, adding to a growing list of White House officials who have tested positive since Trump was diagnosed last week.
- Most of the nation's top military leaders are quarantining after coming in contact with a senior officer with COVID-19, according to the Pentagon.
- The President and key Oval Office figures have violated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance on the coronavirus at least 24 times since Sept. 1, ignoring recommendations on mask wearing, social distancing, quarantining and more.
- American adults, particularly women, are drinking more amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A new study shows that alcohol consumption has increased by 14% compared with a year ago, including 17% for women.
