Coronavirus Watch: How will I know when it's my turn for a vaccine? It's complicated
Some Americans have already received their first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, but how will you know when it's your turn?
It's going to be a complicated process, experts say, and many of the communication procedures will be dictated at the state level, not federal. Here's what to know.
It's Thursday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the Paste BN Network. Here's the news to know today, as of 12 p.m. EST.
- Stimulus check update: The amount of money distributed to Americans as part of a COVID-19 relief package is still in limbo. Millions will have to wait until next week to see if the value of direct payments will be boosted to $2,000 after talks hit a procedural roadblock Thursday.
- A federal moratorium on evictions is set to expire at the end of January, and without any government intervention, as many as 40 million people could face eviction.
- The federal government is close to delivering its goal of 20 million vaccine doses by the end of the year. But states are taking longer than expected to administer the shots to Americans, officials said.
- Happy birthday, Dr. Fauci: Here's how he's celebrating during the pandemic.
Numbers check: Seven-day rolling averages of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the U.S. continue to hover around all-time highs. On Wednesday, the U.S. reported 228,131 cases and 3,359 deaths, per Johns Hopkins University data.
