- Daily case numbers are dropping like a rock in the U.S., but there remains the growing worry of surging, more contagious COVID-19 variants. Most of the variant cases in the U.S. are of the B.1.1.7 variety, which was first detected in the United Kingdom and could become the dominant strain in the U.S. in March.
- No postponed taxes this year: The IRS says it will not be extending its tax-filing deadline of April 15 this year after it did so last year because of the pandemic.
- Emergency room visits were down overall last year, but drug overdose trips to the ER saw an increase from 2019 to 2020.

- Researchers with the World Health Organization said the original coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, in late 2019 was larger than previously thought, CNN reported.
