Coronavirus Watch: COVID infections on the rise in Europe
Just as the U.S. has finally turned the corner on a wave of COVID-19 cases caused by the omicron variant, multiple countries in Europe are showing an increase in infections – fueling concerns about the possibility of another global surge.
The United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy were among those that saw an upswing in cases this past week, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

- France lifted most of its COVID-19 restrictions Monday, including requiring face mask in most places and proof of vaccination to enter restaurants and sports arenas.
- Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said on "Face the Nation" Sunday that a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be necessary to keep hospitalizations and infections at a low level.
- Apple supplier Foxconn, which assembles iPhones, has halted production at its factories in Shenzhen, China, due to the city's COVID-19 lockdown.
