Coronavirus Watch: What will COVID look like this summer?
The pandemic summers of 2020 and 2021 saw a spike in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths across the country. But this season may be different.
Health experts expect cases to rise for summer 2022, but they don't believe there will be a wave as devastating as the previous two summers or the recent omicron surge, as more of the population has some immunity from vaccines, boosters and previous infections.
Research however shows that immunity wanes and new variants could evade what protection remains.

- The FDA set restrictions on who can receive Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose vaccine last week, saying the vaccine should only be given to people who cannot receive a different vaccine or those who specifically request it.
- Willie Nelson and Melissa Etheridge canceled their respective performances at New Orleans Jazz Fest this weekend after members of their band or crew tested positive for COVID-19.
- Two of the top seven American Idol contestants tested positive for COVID-19 this week and were forced to perform remotely or use rehearsal footage for their performances.
