Indelible images from the queen's goodbye

A funeral like no other. Both the pomp and majesty that was expected, along with unexpected moments that touched the heart and even tickled the funny bone, as when a bishop accidentally dropped a piece of paper into the middle of the solemn proceedings.

There was Princess Charlotte crying. The queen's pony standing riderless as her coffin drove by on the way to Windsor Castle, and her two Corgis looking a bit lost and forlorn. And of course the queen's close family members were all present, including King Charles III, saying their final goodbyes to not just an iconic and long-reigning monarch, but also a doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

I'm Marco della Cava, a longtime Paste BN reporter who witnessed a similar outpouring during Princess Diana's funeral, and we have extravagant coverage for you from Queen Elizabeth's funeral, an event that gripped London and the world alike.

Our various correspondents on the scene provided an up-close look at the sentiments of locals, the pageantry on display and details of an event with roots in the distant past. But let's not forget the future. This marks a new beginning for the monarchy, one that many experts believe will head in a new slimmed-down direction under King Charles.

Stay with us as we chronicle this historic transition in the world's most celebrated and watched monarchy, one that some hope comes to a close with the queen's death.
