Keeping it Together: It takes three months. Or does it?

Think about how long it took you and your significant other to get to really know each other. A month? Six months? A year?

My name is David Oliver, and I am a Paste BN wellness reporter. When I first heard about the "three-month rule" on TikTok – which posits that three months is a solid test for whether a couple will ride off into the proverbial sunset or go their separate ways – I naturally thought of all my exes.

Was three months the amount of time it took to get to know them fully? Did I need more time?

The truth? It depended on each relationship, which lined up with what experts told me.

My sources weren't sold on three months as the be-all-end-all marker for relationship success, but they did support the idea of waiting before going all in with a new partner.
