THE LATEST ON THE NBA AND CHINA
— In case you missed it: The NBA and the Rockets are embroiled in a tenuous situation with China over a since-deleted tweet from Houston general manager Daryl Morey regarding protests in Hong Kong.
— Morey's tweet caused the NBA to enter damage control, with China being one of its largest markets and the Rockets being a favorite team in the country.
— The Lakers and Nets are still scheduled to play their two upcoming preseason games in China, but Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said it will not broadcast the games, and the NBA called off scheduled media sessions for the two teams. In addition, an NBA Cares event in Shanghai was called off, as was a "fan night" celebration, and workers in multiple spots around Shanghai were seen tearing down large outdoor promotional advertisements for the Lakers and Nets.
— While some NBA coaches have remained silent on the issue, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich gave his unwavering support to commissioner Adam Silver, who is at the center of the controversy.
— A 76ers fan said he was kicked out of Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center for supporting the human rights protests in Hong Kong.
— A man in China was reportedly arrested after he threatened to burn the national flag on social media while wearing a Rockets jersey.
— Giannis Antetokounmpo called the situation "a misunderstanding" and believes the NBA and China will "find a way" to solve it.
