Does everything have to be so woke?
There’s plenty of news out there these days, but clearly nothing is more important in the white-man-o-sphere than the WOKENESS that Amazon Studios has injected into its new “Lord of the Rings” series, “The Rings of Power.”
I nearly fell off my fainting couch when I first heard the show would feature both a strong female lead character - the elven warrior Galadriel - and diverse actors, including an elf played by Ismael Cruz Córdova, who in July proudly described himself on Instagram as “Black, Latino, Puerto Rican, proud, and Elven AF.”
So I decided it’s both important and in no way embarrassing that me and my adult-male friends (who are also single by choice and have time to worry about crucial matters like this) express our outrage at any attempts to make imaginary worlds reflect the real people who inhabit the actual world.
It’s a slippery slope from there to other forms of entertainment people who don’t look exactly like us can relate to. Read my column to share in my despair.

Political professionals read the comment as a poke in the eye to former President Donald Trump and his endorsement of Senate candidates based solely on their loyalty to him.
In normal times, there is a procedure for recruiting and vetting GOP candidates for the Senate. Its purpose is to identify promising candidates and provide them with the resources to run a successful general election campaign. Read more...
