I’m not a fan of adults picking on kids. So when I saw Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin was the latest Republican politician to jump on the “Let’s make life worse for transgender kids!” bandwagon, I felt angry.
Being kind to children is a baseline for adult human decency. Being unkind to children makes you a bad person. And being unkind to transgender children, who already have inordinately high rates of suicide, makes you a miserable wretch.
Welcome to Miserable Wretchville, Gov. Youngkin. As I detail in today’s column, your new policies attacking transgender youth in Virginia schools have earned you a spot.

In the wake of the historic Supreme Court decision that reversed Roe vs. Wade, candidates who champion life are having a difficult time talking about abortion. With few exceptions, journalists ask the toughest questions of politicians who supported overturning Roe, putting many on the defensive.
The environment is decidedly hostile, but this should not be an excuse for a failure to articulate beliefs about an issue that divides Americans.
