Insult a Paste BN columnist and help people. Really.

Good evening! Tonight we have an update from columnist Rex Huppke on the Insult-A-Columnist Holiday Food Drive:

This week, Paste BN Opinion let me launch a virtual food drive aimed at taking some of the divisiveness in this country and pointing it in a positive direction.

I call it the Insult-A-Columnist Holiday Food Drive. Working with the national non-profit Feeding America, which provides food and other support to a network of 200 food banks across the county, I’m encouraging readers to donate under two team names: RexRocks and RexStinks.

Think I’m a liberal ninny who wouldn’t know an original thought if it clonked me on the noggin? Make a donation under team RexStinks. Think my columns are works of unbridled genius? Make a donation under the team RexRocks.

We’ll let the free market decide whether I’m good or bad, and all the money will go to help people facing food insecurity.

As of Dec. 8, the RexRocks team is clobbering the Rex Stinks team: $10,609.69 to $275.01. That’s embarrassing for my haters. But it also represents more than 108,000 meals for people in need. So get in there and make me hurt, people!

All the details are in the column, and the donation link is right here: feedingamerica.org/USATodayRex.

Paste BN columnist singlehandedly defeats San Francisco's killer robots

When he's not helping our neighbors facing food insecurity, Rex is saving us all from something very different: Killer police robots. "My column sounding the alarm that San Francisco's killer police robots might lead to the Rise of the Roombas clearly resonated with city officials, leading them to reverse course," he writes.

"It would seem bold of me to suggest that I, a humble Paste BN columnist, singlehandedly saved America from a killer robot apocalypse," he adds. "But it’s true, and I’m not one to hide from the truth. (I’m far too brave and humble.)"

Respect for Marriage shows how far we've come

►ICYMI, the House passed the Respect for Marriage Act this week. "Details and nuances notwithstanding, the message on this legislation affirming the freedom to marry and standing up for LGBTQ people is already being heard around the world. We can be proud of the Respect for Marriage Act – and should harness its momentum to continue pushing forward," writes Evan Wolfson.

►Speaking of momentum, let's use it to get paid parental leave for all families, writes David Dodge. "It is a national embarrassment that the United States continues to be the only developed nation in the world without some form of a national leave policy for new parents, but there is one advantage to turning our attention to the issue so late in the game: We can enact an equal paid leave policy, inclusive of all parents, regardless of whether or not they gave birth."
