US embassy in Sudan evacuated
United States diplomats in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum have been safely evacuated, but aid workers and other Americans remained imperiled Sunday as battles raging between rival generals stretched into a second week. President Joe Biden said late Saturday that the evacuation of U.S. Embassy personnel in Sudan has been completed. The evacuation comes amid fighting between Sudan's armed forces and a rival paramilitary group that has left more than 400 dead, put the nation at risk of collapse and could have consequences far beyond its borders.
Russia warns G7 export ban would scuttle Black Sea grain deal
Moscow will shut down the Black Sea grain deal that allows Ukraine to feed much of the developing world if the Group of Seven nations decides to ban all exports to Russia, a top Russian official said Sunday. The G7 countries – the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Japan – are considering a near-total ban on exports to Russia, according to reports last week. Russia has for months threatened to halt the grain deal now set to expire next month.
Delaware becomes 22nd state to legalize recreational marijuana
Marijuana became legal Sunday in Delaware, after Gov. John Carney said he would let bills on the issue become law without his signature. Delawareans will be allowed to consume weed as they wish in private, although recreational weed will not be available for purchase for at least 16 months as a regulated retail industry is geared up. Delaware is the 22nd state to legalize recreational marijuana, marking a milestone in President Joe Biden's home state after a long fight by advocates to loosen restrictions on the drug.

NBCUniversal CEO out after 'inappropriate conduct' probe
Jeff Shell, the chief executive of NBCUniversal and one of the media industry’s renowned executives, is departing the company after an investigation into inappropriate conduct, parent company Comcast announced Sunday. In a brief statement, Shell said Sunday would be his last day after what he called “an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company.” Comcast did not say who will succeed Shell.
Bed Bath & Beyond files for bankruptcy
Bed Bath & Beyond – one of the original big box retailers – has filed for bankruptcy protection, following years of dismal sales and losses and numerous failed turnaround plans. The beleaguered home goods chain made the filing Sunday and said it will start an orderly wind down of its operations including eventually closing its stores, while seeking a buyer for all or some of its businesses. For now, its 360 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and 120 Buy Buy Baby stores as well as its websites will remain open.

8 injured in DC after shooter fired 'indiscriminately' from vehicle
Eight people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in two separate back-to-back shootings Friday night in Washington, D.C., police said. No one died in the shootings, which officials said are believed to be connected. At about 10 p.m. Friday, police responded to reports of shots fired on the city's southeast side, where officers found seven men with gunshot wounds. None of their injuries were life-threatening, and most of the victims took themselves to hospitals.
Grizzlies' Brooks ejected for hitting LeBron James in groin
Memphis Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks got ejected from Game 3 of the Lakers-Grizzlies playoff series after hitting LeBron James in the groin in the second half. Brooks, the Grizzlies antagonist who called James “old’’ after Game 2, put an open backhand into James’ groin area as the Lakers star dribbled the ball upcourt early in the second half of the Lakers' 111-101 win. James writhed on the court and needed a couple of minutes before getting back onto his feet. Officials reviewed the play and determined Brooks had committed a flagrant foul 2, resulting in an automatic ejection.
