Latest forecast: Delta is expected to become a major hurricane again by late Thursday but could weaken as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast on Friday, according to the 1 p.m. CT forecast from the National Hurricane Center.
- Location: 370 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana
- Movement: Northwest at 13 mph
- Maximum sustained winds: 105 mph
- Watches and warnings: Watches and warnings are in effect from Texas to Louisiana and Mississippi.
When will Delta make landfall?: Hurricane Delta will likely make landfall on the Louisiana coast by Friday afternoon or Friday evening, according to the National Hurricane Center.

In Louisiana
Louisiana is bracing for heavy winds, storm surge and strong rain. The storm is forecast to make landfall east of Cameron Parish, where Hurricane Laura came ashore as a Category 4 storm.
The state has found itself within a dreaded storm cone for a record sixth time this year. Gov. John Bel Edwards said southwest Louisiana “is in no shape to withstand a storm" and again called the hurricane season "relentless" for the state.

- State of emergency: Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of Delta and has asked President Donald Trump to issue a federal declaration of emergency prior to the storm's landfall.

- Watches and advisories: Parts of Mississippi are under storm surge and tropical storm watches and warnings. Here's the latest.
- What areas will be impacted? "The southwest portions of the state have the greatest potential for tropical-storm-force winds," said National Weather Service meteorologist Latrice Maxie.
- When will severe weather begin? Hurricane Delta is expected to move into west-central Mississippi late Friday or early Saturday. Tornadoes are possible late Thursday through Friday over the southern parts of Mississippi.
