Lack of communication and utilities hampers Terrebonne recovery efforts
Damage assessment and recovery efforts are happening much slower than hoped because of the lack of utilities and communication, Terrebonne Parish officials said Friday.
As of Friday morning, 43,403 customers remained without electricity in Lafourche and 26,962 in Terrebonne. Entergy reported Friday afternoon that all the parish's customers should have power restored by Sept. 29 with many coming online sooner.

Lafourche officials offer message of hope after Ida
“We often hear the phrase ‘the cavalry is coming,’” Sheriff Craig Webre said Thursday during a news conference. “The cavalry is coming and a lot of the cavalry is here. For three days there was no cavalry. There were deputy sheriffs, EMS personnel, parish workers and state workers. This group of dedicated people held the line in the most cataclysmic storm event that Lafourche Parish has ever experienced.”
As of Thursday, there were no major obstructions in any of Port Fourchon’s main waterways, Parish President Archie Chiasson said. Crews are still surveying the smaller channels.
Webre said there were no fatalities or serious injuries in Lafourche and wants to keep it that way.
