I'm voting for Trump. Does that make me 'garbage'?
The election is only five days from today. It’s sure to be exciting, controversial and dramatic.
As of this writing, polls show Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in a virtual tie, with Trump in a slight lead in the Real Clear Politics national average.
As a Republican who doesn’t like Trump much, I’ve struggled to figure out how I would vote.
One of my colleagues at Paste BN, Dace Potas, is a conservative who can’t bring himself to vote for Trump. I resonate with that.
Between his legal woes, mistreatment of women and the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, Trump has shown himself in many ways to be unfit for the presidency.
I am disappointed in Republican voters for again choosing someone who doesn’t seem to understand conservativism to represent the conservative party. I am frustrated that the Republican nominee has all kinds of vices and legal and personal issues when so many other men or women could have represented the party and conservatives better.
However, this is a two-way race, and Trump is the Republican nominee.
My column: I don't like Trump, but I'm voting for him. Here's why many Americans will, too.
To be clear, Harris is no more fit for the presidency than Trump. The Democratic Party lied to the American people about the health of President Joe Biden. They ousted him and chose Harris even though she has never won a presidential primary.
Since becoming the nominee, Harris has been unable to answer even the most basic questions about her own record or her policy ideas.
Here’s another thing I find frustrating: Biden, Harris and the Democratic Party cannot stand Republicans. On Tuesday, Biden called Republicans who support Trump “garbage.” My colleague Ingrid Jacques explained this revealing comment well.
It’s jarring and unsettling to hear the sitting president call tens of millions of voters “garbage.”
This kind of disdain can make even conservatives who are on the fence for Trump vote for him anyway.
Still, on policy alone, I will cast my vote for Trump along with millions of other Republicans. (The “garbage” label pushes me more willingly toward Trump though.)
By this time next week, we may know who the next president will be. Are you excited? Anxious? Have you voted yet? Let me know: nrussell@gannett.com.
The election is almost here. Here's what we're saying about it:
- I asked Mark Cuban why he has gone all in for Harris. Here's what he told me.
- Biden calls Trump supporters 'garbage.' It fits the mold of Dems insulting opponents.
- I'm a conservative who can't vote Trump. I choose an actual Republican leader.
- Where'd the joy go? Harris ditches happy vibes for fearmongering about Trump.
