I'm excited Trump won – but not for why you think

Donald Trump has won the presidential election, and it wasn’t particularly close.

In fact, it appears like it was a red wave of epic proportions.

If you’re reading this, I guess you’re happy about the result, or at least, relieved Kamala Harris wasn’t elected.

I admit, I’m stunned. I did not predict this. I was not sure if Trump would win at all, let alone win at least five (perhaps all) of the battleground states.

I wasn’t thrilled about either of my choices, but I did vote for Trump. I couldn’t support Harris or Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s progressive policies.

I’m excited, but probably not for the reasons you might think.

Election results tell us something about Americans in every state. Thanks to the collection of data and the speed of technology, we will soon know a great deal about who voted and why, based on exit polls.

We’ll know how many women voted and how many men. I suspect there will be a massive gender gap, which will require a lot of analysis.

We will know how young people and older Americans voted. We will know how Hispanic men and Black women voted. How religious and nonreligious Americans voted. The list goes on.

With that information, we can have a better understanding of our fellow Americans: What are they looking for? What are they asking of Trump? What did they dislike about Harris?

I think I know some of these answers, and you may too, but it will be vital to find out for sure.

Opinion poll: Trump wins 2024 election. What comes next? You tell us.

Most importantly, more than 71 million Americans have rejected Harris and her progressive ideas. I hope the Democratic Party takes heed of this rebuke.

Trump’s win also indicates that the American people want him to do what he said he would do. An election is a transaction: In exchange for our vote, the president needs to better secure this nation in many ways.

It’s vital that Trump understands this exchange. It is vital that rather than gloat, the Republican Party gets serious by determining the right track for the nation and implementing policies that help improve Americans’ lives.

Trump’s win is the chance the Republican Party needs to be reborn. Will they do it?
