Hawaii's new senator breaks glass ceiling

Democratic Rep. Mazie Hirono has won Hawaii's open Senate seat and made history.

Hirono defeated Republican Linda Lingle, a former governor, to win the seat of retiring Democrat Daniel Akaka.

Hirono, a member of Congress since 2007, is the first woman elected to the Senate from Hawaii. She is also the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate.
