S.C. Gov. Haley's husband home for a short leave
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has canceled some public events while her husband is on a short break from his deployment in Afghanistan, her office said Monday.
Capt. Michael Haley, a member of the Army National Guard, is home for up to two weeks of leave as granted by his commanders. He is believed to be the first spouse of a sitting governor to be deployed into a combat zone, the National Guard Association has said.
Gov. Haley, a Republican up for re-election in 2014, bade an emotional farewell to her husband in January when he began his one-year tour of duty. The couple have two children.
