#tellusatoday: Social Security in 'fiscal cliff' talks?
We asked on Twitter whether cutting entitlements should be considered in negotiations to reduce the deficit. Comments have been edited for clarity and grammar:
Hands off Social Security. Workers paid for their benefits. Corporate welfare is the entitlement needing reform.
-- @armynod
In a perfect world, entitlement reform is part of any deal. Biggest drivers of debt/deficits. Won't happen though.
-- @BukoTime
How could they not be? Taxing the top 2% more won't solve the deficit. Embarrassing that president, Reid and Pelosi not being honest.
-- @gss2003
If entitlements are not reformed, we will never get out of this hole of debt.
-- @BaldandBonaFide
Do not touch Social Security. That would be akin to theft. Government took my money for a specific reason. Not returning it is stealing.
-- @ihatealzheimers
No, Social Security cuts should not be part of the fiscal cliff talks because it does not affect the deficit. Period!
-- @fourrowesup
How can my Social Security be entitlement when I have paid into the system? Let's get a better term.
-- @ibsterman123
Absolutely! You cannot balance the budget and attack our debt without revenue increases and spending cuts!
