#tellusatoday: Pros and cons of armed guards in schools
We asked our followers on Twitter for their thoughts on the NRA's proposal for more security in schools. Comments are edited for clarity and grammar:
NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre says to have armed guards in the schools. What about buses, cafeterias, bus stops, malls, day cares? Absurd !
— @little_bear_cub
Yes (to guards) for now, and gun and mental health changes.
— @John_Whalen
Let us hope the armed guards get extensive background checks and take a psychological test.
— @RealmxRadio
Putting armed personnel in all schools is crazy. Too costly.
— @DakotaTarbell
Adam Lanza's mother was killed with her own guns. More guns didn't protect her. Why should we believe they'll protect our kids?
— @Becks543
"Kindergarten Killer" is a crappy online flash game no one plays. Why didn't LaPierre talk about how the NRA weakened U.S. gun laws? NRA is passing the buck.
— @RobTessaro
I agree video games make mass killing fun to a disturbed mind.
— @russrillo
Wouldn't playing these games give kids an outlet so as not to do these things in real life?
— @njmaxrod
Games aren't to blame. Neither are guns. The individual is to blame. That's it.
