Some fliers put off by Dreamliner: Your Say
Federal Aviation Administration grounded Boeing 787 Dreamliners on Wednesday until batteries on board are shown to be safe. Comments from Facebook:
I love to travel and fly. This is the first time I've been seriously worried because of Boeing.

As Boeing said, these are just teething pains. This airplane and subsequent lightweight carbon composite airframes will save billions of dollars in fuel costs, as well as be better for the environment.
Robert Willison
Toyota faced this same kind of PR nightmare. Boeing should take a lesson from that company. Be silent, ground your planes, fix all the known bugs and fly again. If it tries to insist the problems (such as fire on an airplane) are minor, it will be impossible to sell an already skeptical public on the product.

This has been a nightmare going back to the manufacturing process. It kept being delayed, costing billions of dollars. It'll all get sorted out. But I would stay away from it for a while.
Steve Byers
It's a great aircraft, if you've ever flown on it. New aircraft always haveproblems, some worse than what the 787 is experiencing.
I've flown on a Dreamliner from Tokyo to Los Angeles using United. The feel of the aircraft is great. The cabin pressurization feels like home because I live in Denver. And the big windows are great.
It's not a nightmare, and I do hope Boeing fixes it soon.

Dreamliner is a step change in several areas, although most of these are still a gradual evolution of technology.
Anything new and as complex as these machines is going to have break-in issues. Let's hope Boeing didn't miss anything major as it developed this plane. Also, air travel is getting safer every day.
