Ban sex offenders from Facebook?: #tellusatoday
A federal appeals court overturned an Indiana law barring registered sex offenders from websites such as Facebook. Comments are from Twitter and Facebook:
Where in the Constitution are we granted the right to use Facebook? I missed that in high school government.
— @oregonmum
If sex offenders can use Facebook, non-violent felons should have the right to own a gun and vote.

This is disgusting. These sick people need to be identified, especially to our kids!
— @pamela_scotland
As much as I think sex offenders should be punished, I see no technicalities that would legally ban them from Facebook.
— @ChrisEmanuel
I think sex offenders would use Facebook to lure their victims. A red bar should say sexual predator on their pages.

The court system is struggling as of late. See the Casey Anthony case.
— @SharondaRush
Our laws are so outdated, the courts have no choice!

The ruling lacks common sense. What's the point of having a sex offender registry? Also sex offenders can go online and prey on kids from the comfort of their own houses. No need to go out.

I can also see how joining a social network could be seen as protected under the First Amendment. It's a venue to express yourself.
This also is an issue involving parenting.

Anyone over the age of 13 can sign up for a Facebook account. Many under 13 already have one anyway.
Good parenting can alleviate the problem, but even great parents can't be in all places at all times.
— Kell Richardson
Why would it be a big deal if convicted sex offenders couldn't use a social-networking website? Maybe they should have thought of that beforehand. If they had, it's doubtful that would have made a difference.
Alcoholics and drug addicts can be rehabilitated, but child molesters?
— Mase Wehrle
This is the problem with technology. Everyone should have access, but certain people with access abuse it.
