Ensure mentally ill don't access guns: #tellusatoday
Nearly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides. We asked on Twitter if more should be done to keep guns away from the mentally ill. Comments are edited for clarity and grammar:
More needs to be done to keep guns away from not only the mentally ill, but from whoever is not equipped to use them.

Most successful suicides are by guns. We've got to do something about all these guns.

Yes. Maybe people should have to have a physical when they buy a gun, to see whether they are mentally stable.

It's difficult to screen without violating doctor-patient privilege, or chilling a desire to seek treatment.

The mentally ill? Sure. I also think we can reach those who are suicidal and help them before they "pull the trigger."

Do you want to take away people's cars, too? What about the many deaths from vehicle accidents with many driving while drunk or on drugs?
— @Richardwhiz
We never want to take away rights for a given group. It should be a case-by-case issue. Many have depression sometime in life.
