For spectator safety, reinforce fences: #tellusatoday
We asked our followers on Twitter whether more should be done to ensure fan safety at NASCAR races. Comments are edited for clarity and grammar:
That accident and subsequent injuries were a fluke. It's more dangerous driving to/from the race.

I don't know why there isn't some type of reinforced plexiglass behind the fence. It'll only stop so much debris, but it would be better than an open chain-link fence.

Make a double fence and move fans away from the track. Many tracks are like this.

Fans have to assume some risk. If stands were far enough away to be safe, no one would be happy.

There's always room for safety improvements. However, there's risk in attending any sporting event.

I think they should see if they can make changes that might have prevented some of what happened Saturday. Maybe a fence behind the main catchfence?
— @ProudRowdyfan
The drivers weren't hurt. Clearly, safety precautions work and were inadequate for spectators.
