Keep Martin Luther King's dream alive: #tellusatoday
This week marked the 45th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Comments are from Facebook and Twitter:
Forty-five years ago Thursday, a sniper killed Martin Luther King Jr. He gave his famous "mountain top" speech 45 years ago Wednesday night in Memphis. He was only 39.

I remember the killing well. It was part of the evil spring of 1968.

Yes, it was a very scary time. The riots in D.C. were memorable.

As I vividly remember that day, it makes me feel old. It also makes me sad that so little progress has been made in this country.
Coincidentally I am lecturing on "race" this week, and the lack of biological races in our species.
It seems that South Africa, where I lived for a decade, is making more progress on "racial" understanding than many parts of the USA.

There certainly seem to be plenty of distractions that keep people apathetic about race relations.
For many people, it's easy to use race as a point of division rather than to strive to overcome divisions for the betterment of man.
— Rafael Quinones
We will keep on until we get there. Keep the dream alive.

Some will never understand being targeted or hated for something you are. Perhaps it's ignorance. The truth is, we live in a world where a lot of what Dr. King fought against is still alive and well.
— Efe Abbe
I guess the anniversary of King's death is a non-story for some people. But for the people who lived through those days and worked hard at making a difference, it's THE story. Our lives are forever changed because of great people who stood up and said, "Enough!"

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." — MLK Jr.
