That the reaction to the jury's decision is generally split along political lines is alarming. It means one thing – the trial is perceived as a political activity rather than as a legal action. Politics, after all, helped create the crisis. George Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin. There is little doubt that Mr. Martin should not have died and that his death was a needless tragedy. Mr. Zimmerman's activities on patrol were questionable and probably culpable.
