The president had until now defended the NSA's data mining while giving the public few reassurances there are adequate safeguards in place. But he said Friday he now realizes it wasn't enough just to assure the public that he was comfortable that American citizens' constitutional rights are being protected. He realizes that the public must be similarly reassured. That is an important concept to keep in mind.
