Armed officers at every airport checkpoint? #tellusatoday
After the fatal shooting of a TSA agent at Los Angeles airport Friday, we asked our Twitter followers what they thought about armed security at all airport checkpoints. Comments are edited for clarity and grammar:
It's a terrible idea to have armed officers at every airport checkpoint. The U.S. isn't a police state. The solution to gun violence isn't more guns.
— @kevinrleyland
Absolutely! Why not? TSA agents screen us for safety, and they should be safe as well.
— @KimWendel
We can't prevent everything. Armed guards seem to be an exaggerated response to an isolated incident.
— @CJ11andFOX
Armed guards at all checkpoints would be window dressing. We need to catch threats upstream. Use profiling and technology, including the NSA.
— @tridentjohn
I think all TSA agents should be armed, or there should be two armed guards at all checkpoints.
— @Otaku2012
I've never felt safer walking through an airport than I was seeing armed National Guard after 9/11. I have no problem with that.
— @chumley001
No, where would that lead? People give inches and miles are taken. We have given up enough freedoms already.
