Motorists and cyclists can be friends: #tellusatoday
Conflict between motorists and bicyclists has led to an increasingly bitter debate over bike lanes and road laws. Comments from Twitter and Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:
It's time for drivers to start sharing the road with bicycles. This shift will require that those of us on bicycles be more considerate of those in cars, but the cars must also give us space on the roads. There's room for both of us.
— Denny Ebersole
Bikes are here to stay. Local government officials responsible for putting in biking infrastructure need to put their mouths where their money is and teach motorists to accept and respect bikers.
— Ian Macrae
The majority of bikers seem to feel that traffic laws don't apply to them. They move right through red lights and stop signs. If they feel that way, I don't owe them any respect on the road.
— John M Haddow
Bike lanes and paths will help road safety, as well as better road responsibility and education for motorists and bicyclists alike.
— @JosefStoli
Bicyclists must be required to wear helmets and ride single file. Too many travel in groups, causing motorists to swerve.
— @JeffOstach
Every day we observe times when bicyclists violate road rules, ignoring signs and lights, but then demand road respect.
— @ATPJudge
Cyclists must wear helmets. I can't count how many helmet-less cyclists I've seen. Cops should pull them over.
