Overhaul system to end political corruption: Your Say

Former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell was found guilty on 11 corruption charges after taking loans and gifts in exchange for government favors. Facebook comments edited for clarity and grammar:

This guilty verdict is quite sad. I didn't care much for Bob McDonnell's politics, but I wish it had not happened since he seemed like a decent man. Hopefully the sentence will be commensurate with the amount of money involved, which frankly is a pittance compared with what the Koch brothers are pumping into congressional races. Those who benefit from the Koch largesse will be expected to vote accordingly.

I am glad that the jury found both McDonnell and his wife guilty. There is too much corruption in politics.

This is why we need term limits and also need to support the Tea Party, which advocates small government. There are hundreds of former members of Congress who have worked as lobbyists in Washington. These people never leave.

McDonnell may go to jail for accepting a Rolex. But, if he had been a member of Congress, he could have accepted millions in contributions without any problem.

Our political system stinks. The only answer is to get all money out of politics, and that will never happen.

—Bill Greer

Political corruption like this is what sunk Detroit and other cities. The politicians running these cities and states steal the money, then flee to leave some other unfortunate person there to deal with the problems and take the blame.
