Will Scotland regret independence vote? Your Say

On Thursday, Scotland will vote on whether to separate from Great Britain. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

My family came from Scotland. If you know history, the Scots have been fighting for independence for centuries. This should sound familiar to all Americans based on our own Revolution. It is up to the Scots to decide what is best for them!

— Ron Williams

My advice: Remain united as a nation and improve the quality of life for all people.

Morcease Beasley

Scotland is a proud and a beautiful country. If its people want to be independent, then why not? For the Scots, it will not be for oil but for freedom.

Marc Laurent

I'm half Scottish, live near London and am proud to call myself British. Scotland, England and the rest of the United Kingdom together have achieved astonishing things that we never would have done alone. Separate, we would be diminished.

Nicholas Rogers

The United Kingdom is unlikely to be churlish if Scotland votes for independence. However, it is unlikely to give Scotland everything that some Scottish politicians want.

How would other countries react? Of particular importance are the other European Union countries. They are unlikely to give Scotland an easy ride.

David Sturt

I am a U.S. citizen and half Scottish. The "no" camp reflected in the English news media has bordered on racism. It has implied that an independent Scotland would not be able to manage its own affairs and would be a pariah among other countries and international institutions. I will support Scotland, no matter what it decides.
