Why does it matter if CEO is gay? Your Say
Apple CEO Tim Cook's recent announcement that he is gay prompted a discussion about such disclosures. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:
Cook is the CEO of Apple, and he happens to be gay. He is not CEO because he is gay. Michael Sam is a football player. He is also gay. He is not a football player because he is gay.
Your sexual orientation should not be how you're identified.

I would like to think that the most important thing that Cook has done is to encourage people to judge him as a human being. He is a CEO. Judge him in that role and erase all the wasteful attention to his personal life.
Aren't we all a member of some sub group? Each human being is capable of amazing things.
— Michael Bower
This was not a smart move on his part. CEOs lack the freedom to air their personal lives, especially if it could endanger the bottom line of a huge corporation such as Apple. This information is not wanted or needed.
A CEO represents a company, not himself or a private agenda. Cook clearly wasn't thinking of the stock holders, or company revenues. Only a small percentage of the world's population are homosexuals.
