Human spirit drives space exploration: Your Say
Philae, a European Space Agency spacecraft, successfully landed on a comet Wednesday. On Friday, it lost connection with scientists. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:
Humans land a robot on a comet. Amazing. I'm sad it isn't a mission by the United States, but I am happy for the European Space Agency. With this type of research, much knowledge can be gained at a price cheaper than a war.
— Gordon Roth
This was an amazing feat. Landing a probe on a comet more than 300 million miles away shouldn't be about politics. What happened today is a bonus for all mankind in my opinion.
— Mark Jones
What an incredible waste of money and time. Who cares about this mission?
There are so many problems on Earth to focus on, instead of this fool's mission.
— Patrick Neis
All I can say to the world is, please never stop exploring space and pushing the boundaries of how far we can go.
I know space exploration doesn't have the same allure that it had in decades past, but I truly believe that our collective future is to be found away from our planet.
