Views divided over prosecuting Petraeus: #tellusatoday

We asked our followers on Twitter whether retired general David Petraeus, former director of the CIA, should be prosecuted on charges of giving secret information to his biographer with whom he had an affair. Comments are edited for clarity and grammar:

Why shouldn't he be, if prosecutors believe there is adequate evidence? It calls for formal admonishment.

— @FLCruiseAdvisor

Unless the information was vital to national security, no. Petraeus' shame and fall from grace is punishment enough.

@optimama1957

Petraeus lost his career and a possible GOP presidential nomination. He's been ruined enough for his pillow talk.

@JohnPawps

I hate when generals are treated differently from others who would have the book thrown at them!

@major1029

The title "general" in front of his name means his punishment should be more, not less.

@notthenews

Yes, prosecute if he passed along classified secrets. It is inexcusable at his level.

@MarshallManolof

I am more concerned with consequences of his breach. If few, why persecute/prosecute him more than he's already suffered?

@KrissUnger

He should receive whatever punishment soldiers before him received who committed the same violation.
