Oscars fumble on diversity: Your Say

The 2015 Academy Awards nominations drew fire for lack of diversity. All of the 20 nominees for lead or supporting actor and actress are white. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

The lack of diversity in nominations is partially due to the lack of diverse films in general and reflective of the underlying challenge to increase diversity within the ranks of the film industry. I do not think it was an intentional, racist effort to leave out such movies/performances this year.

These two issues I've mentioned should be discussed, not some imagined slight in a year that perhaps did not have a lot of great performances by people of color.

If a film does not measure up, then it should not be nominated. Playing the race card is so old! Get over it and make a better quality movie next time.

Diversify the voting body. Seeing things only out of the eyes of whites in America is dangerous.

Letter to the editor:

To announce in bold typeface that all Academy Awards acting nominees are white this year implies race was a consideration in the selection process. Nonsense ("White, male field spurs Oscars diversity backlash").

It seems to me that the race of each nominee is as irrelevant as his height and weight. The fact that all were white was undoubtedly pure coincidence.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards excellence for demonstration of skill whether it's by any of the myriad people behind the camera or the select few in front of it.
