Does Congress need to hear Netanyahu? #tellusatoday
House Speaker John Boehner invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak before Congress without consulting with the White House. Comments from Twitter and Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:
The leaders of our greatest allies should always be welcome to speak to Congress and, by extension, to us.

It was a deliberate act to defy the president.

It's a good move to show Israelis that Americans stand with them although our president seems to be working against them.

It is all political, but the U.S. must show the Islamic world we have Israel's back.

This breach of protocol was intended to poke a finger in President Obama's eye. Congress does not need to hear from Netanyahu. He has made his position on Iran quite clear in the past, and nothing has changed. He would love it if we started bombing Iran. Word of warning: The American people might not take too kindly to the thought of a foreign leader telling the U.S. Congress what to do.
— John Petz
Do people prefer Boehner handling our foreign policy? It's a shame that he is too busy trying to co-opt the president's job instead of doing his own.
— Diane Diggs
I'm tired of fighting Israel's wars. Why is it our business? If you want to talk human rights, look at what's going on with Boko Haram leaving a trail of bodies across Africa. Yet we sit idly by and do nothing.
